When the pay TV industry held its annual conference at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre last month, one of the most popular presentations was from Mark Burnett, the creator of the top-rating US show Survivor.

Delegates at ASTRA (Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association) 2010 were not only impressed by his content but also the way it was delivered – in a presentation live from the United States, compliments of the Centre’s Digital Video Network.

Using its DVN link, the Centre’s boutique video production unit, Centre Video Production (CVP), was able to deliver a high quality broadcast that made it appear that Mr Burnett was talking live from the next room, rather than another continent.

Meanwhile, the Centre’s camera crew captured vision of the conference, which was conveniently sent direct from the venue via DVN to Sky News for broadcast.

Introduced to the Centre last year, the DVN service enables high-quality live digital broadcasts to be received and transmitted from the Centre, and has proved very popular with television stations and conference organisers.

It has also won fans outside the Centre, playing an important role in the Sky News live broadcast of Australia Day events at Darling Harbour in January.

Meanwhile, CVP’s other services continue to be in great demand, including the production of conference highlight videos.

The CVP’s production skills were evident at the industry exhibition AIME in March, with the Centre spending several days shooting and editing a knockout video of Sydney which was aired on a 35 metre wide screen at the event.
