Message from the Branch Chair |
|
The festivities have begun..
Christmas trees and decorations are going up, wrapping paper is coming out and the end of the year is nearly upon us! I confess that I have a 2011 wall planner up and it is already filling fast…. well before I look too far forward to the new year I would like to reflect on the amazing year we have had. Whilst you will read about the events below I’d like to personally thank the WA Branch Committee, Networking Events, Professional Development and Y MEA Sub-committees, for the time they have volunteered to bring our members successful and well attended networking events and PDs throughout this year. To our National Supporters and many Sponsors we very much appreciate your continued support of our industry and MEA.
Whilst we are all extremely busy with the events leading up to Christmas, I would like to remind you that submissions for the MEA Awards Program close Friday 21 January, I strongly believe that successful submissions are a team effort so I encourage you to nominate a person in your organisation to download the submission form and drive this whilst we are all immersed in what we do best… EVENTS!….. I would love to see more Western Australian’s at the National Awards Dinner in Brisbane and of course I am sure the WA Branch Networking Committee as always will be putting on a great show locally for our State Awards in March.
Best Wishes for a Fabulous Festive Season with your loved ones, a very prosperous New Year and look forward to seeing you at a MEA event in the near future!

Networking Update |
|
|
Virgin Blue Airlines hosted the WA ClubMEA at the newly launched ‘The lounge’ at the Virgin Blue Terminal in June. Industry colleagues gathered to hear the future plans and reward offers for Virgin Blue’s Corporate Business clients. Attendees had the opportunity to experience the complete service of ‘The Lounge’ as they would when travelling through the Perth terminal with Virgin Blue providing canapés, beverages and a lucky door prize voucher valued at $350.00
MEA WA was delighted to partner with Hyatt Regency Perth in September to hold the ClubMEA HySociety Networking Event. A spectacular turnout by the industry made for a great evening of networking and catching up. Guests sipped champagne and indulged in High Tea delicacies while hearing from special guest the Right Hon. Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi. Corporate Theatre Productions transformed the room into a “fashion runway” as Myer showcased the latest corporate trends and attendees viewed a live demonstration of the perfect makeup look in the business world.
Christmas cheer was alive and well at Rendezvous Hotel Perth on 30 November as MEA members and guests celebrated the festive season! Staging Connections created the perfect ‘Calypso Beach’ atmosphere, Ice Impressions hand-crafted a stunning sun, Calypso Crew played tunes to set the mood, fabulous prizes were given away and delicious canapés and beverages were served throughout the evening.
Many thanks to all our WA ClubMEA event sponsors and prize supporters that helped make each of the above events a great success!

Professional Development Update |
|
|
Continuous learning and development of skills is a core aspect of MEA WA, with several Professional Development seminars held over recent months.
Chrissie Maus, Events & Marketing Manager, Channel 7 Telethon provided a tailored interactive presentation on the sponsorship opportunities through the different media channels – TV/Radio/Print. This event was very well received by attendees allowing them to enhance their confidence in approaching prospects and giving them control when seeking sponsors across all sectors of the industry. Using proven workable collateral demonstrated the importance of combining resources and methods to maintain existing sponsors.
Paramount Training & Development and expert industry panelists, Tracy Baker - Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, Renee Bennett - EECW Pty Ltd and Ryan Taylor – AVPartners combined their extensive knowledge to deliver a half day seminar on the topic of "Sales and Training". With easy-to-learn techniques and tools in maximising sales effectiveness and overall revenue performance, attendees left with a proactive approach to take back to their workplace.
Definitely a breakfast Bundle of MUST KNOWS, as attendees gathered to hear Dirk Feinauer – Feinauer Commercial Lawyers provide his advice on legal matters when organising a major event from start to finish. Jose Horn from Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) outlined the benefits of copyright and effectively capturing music at each event and Greg Keating, Keating Photography presented on event photography. Attendees were provided with real case scenarios of some of Perth’s most recognizable events.
Thanks to Our Professional Development Sponsors:

WA Y MEA experience something sweet at Patersons Stadium |
|
|

Over 30 young event and meeting professionals experienced the best view in the house at Patersons Stadium (formerly Subiaco Oval) for a Networking Event with Mustard Catering.
Kicking off in the Ross Capes Room guests got to meet with other industry professionals and savour the chocolate foundation.
A tour of the back of house kitchen areas and seeing copious meals are prepared for weekly AFL games and concerts, Pastry Chef Patrick Contreras of Mustard Catering demonstrated with great flair the art of chocolate making. The group then had the chance to taste the chocolate and chocolate truffles with much enthusiasm! Canapes, drinks and networking completed the successful event.
